So for the second prompt of my movie challenge, it’s time for a book to movie adaptation and for this I chose the classic “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” based off the short story of the same name by Truman Capote. Now the book itself is short but really quite dull, like a bad Gatsby remake. The film is just a disjointed only brought to life by Audrey Hepburn.
When talking about this film it’s important to remember the horrible racist performance of Mickey Rooney as Mr Yunioshi and here is an article about it here.
Audrey Hepburn truly is the best in this film and part from the truly hilarious party scene most of it is actually quite dull. I probably won’t watch it again.
I chose Skyfall the 2012 classic. I chose it for two reasons
1. it is super enjoyable
2. It is also set partially in Scotland, as I am half Scottish I thought for a film in my native language, it would have to have at least some basis there.
Skyfall is an incredible film. It’s visually stunning, intriguing and unlike the other James Bond films I was entertained the whole way through. Javier Bardem plays Silva the evil guy. The Bond Girl isn’t around too long and Dame Judy Dench continues to be better than us all. Also it stars Ben Whishaw and Ralph Fiennes.
Definitely worth a watch!
What a great way to start the challenge
not all my posts for movie challenge will look like this. This is just for the ones I am not going to review fully based no my SCREEN SPLURGE format.
Readers, if you have seen the trailer for horns you should be aware the film is not what was marketed to you. Instead of the whiney thriller horror presented to you in those 2 minutes something a lot better is there. A 2 hour dark comedy showing the folly of man and all the other darkness that fills our neighbours and us whilst having tons of fun fun christian mythology references. All in all it is better than the crap you were advertised go see it.
so it’s a clever concept. Adapted from the book byJoe Hill, Horns is the story of Ig (Daniel Radcliffe) trying to find the killer of his girlfriend (Juno Temple) however everyone believes it’s him and he is followed and accosted everyday. Until he wakes up after a drunken attack on his deceased girlfriends memorial (he literally pisses on candles, HILARIOUS) with horns growing. Now that is one thing the strange power he gets next is the other. Suddenly people divulge their deepest secrets to him and do mostly what he says if he plays to their desires.
A particular glorious moment is when Ig turns on the journalist and tells them to fight each other and the winner will get an exclusive interview with him. Cue a ton of journalists beating the living hell out of each other and Ig laughing in the background. It’s funny, nasty and biting commentary all at once and it is fantastic.
As I mentioned earlier Ig becomes more and more twisted by his new power. In a particular effecting scene he uses his power to get his brother to take all his drugs at once to experience exactly what happened to his girlfriend. It’s horrifically brilliant.
This film really is funny, proper funny. A proper dark comedy with creepy christian mythology weaved in it but this isn’t Dogma this is proper fun scares. It messes with the audience and with its characters in ways Chuck Palahniuk would be proud of.
This is a amazing film once again showcasing Daniel Radcliffe’s incredible acting skill and his talent for being a sarcastic little dickhead rolled in to one glorious film.
If like me you cannot afford Photoshop, Pixlr is a good alternative. However it can be difficult to fully utilise the free resource especially with the limited amour of tutorials there are. So here is how you do a simple colour replace.
For this tutorial I will be using this photo of the lovely Jude Law
Ok so once you have uploaded your photo you will come to this screen
we will start with something easy changing his green background
First click on the pipette tool it looks like this
click on the background using this tool and this will happen
Now click on the small box of colour (in this case the green) and choose a new colour.
I have chosen a pink!
Now click on the colour replace tool, it looks like this.
Now go up to the top of the screen and go on the brush menu as pictured
As this is a vast space I have chosen a bigger brush the 30 on the second row. feel free to experiment at this point.
